About the club

The club meets every Friday from 8.30 to 11.30 pm at the the Christ Church Centre on Magdalen Road (NR3 4LA), opposite the Whalebone pub. There is a large car park in front of the Centre and it is on regular bus routes (18, 21/22). Guest nights are in the main hall and folk song sessions usually in an upstairs room.

Friday folk song sessions

We have a weekly folk song session, hosted by a club or guest MC, with a wide mixture of tunes and songs. Entry is free and we welcome all performers – there is no need to reserve a slot. Our definition of ‘folk’ is broad and we appreciate every contribution. But there is no pressure to take part – we also welcome everyone who enjoys listening to live acoustic music. Themed evenings crop up every so often as an extra challenge!

Showcase nights

The popular free showcase nights give invited performers a chance to spread their wings in a couple of longer spots within the singaround.

Guest nights

We book a variety of well known and up-and-coming local, national and international performers on a monthly basis and make a reasonable charge for those nights, with reductions for club members. Current ticket price for members is usually £7 (£10 for non-members).

Membership

Membership runs from February to the end of January and is due for 2013-14. The fee is £10. Join by contacting the membership secretary on any club night.

Committee

In the chair and treasurer Fred Brown; secretary Bridget Lely;  membership secretary Julie Burgess; lay members: Keith Ellison, Steve Evans, Alan Hine, Kevin Green
