Rosie Eade showcase on Friday 27 March

rosie and steveSpecial showcase guests at the song session on Friday 27 March will be the Rosie Eade duo. Singer-songwriter and guitarist Rosie has been gigging since 2004 and performs lively, evocative, life-inspired songs, along with traditional songs and favourite covers. Her voice has been described as ‘one of the loveliest new voices on the folk and acoustic music scene’ (Village Pump Folk Club, 2013).

Rosie is accompanied by mandolin player Steve Mathews.

There will be a raffle but no entry charge. This is a song session, so all performers and listeners very welcome. Bring a bottle.

Benji KirkpatrickOur guest on Friday 12 September, Benji Kirkpatrick, is a member of folk big band, ‘Bellowhead’, who play to ever-growing audiences in the UK and abroad. He is also a member of the reformed ‘Faustus’ and has worked extensively with Seth Lakeman.

Benji picks his way up and down the frets of various stringed instruments – mainly guitar, bouzouki, mandolin and banjo. He is also a singer and a songwriter, has made three solo albums and his performances have been described as ‘powerful’.

As usual the evening will start at 8.30 pm and tickets £10 (£7 club members) can be reserved via the form on the ‘Contact us’ page. Bring your own drinks – teas and coffee available in the kitchen.

Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston have emerged to become one of the most sought-after duos on the English folk and roots scene. The striking combination of the flame-headed double bass player and virtuoso mandolin player have been described as ‘Scintillating, sensitive and brilliant!’ (Folk Roots).

Well known for the last eight years as a central component of Show of Hands, Miranda has an exquisite and spine-tingling voice, whilst Rex, with his exuberant and flamboyant playing style, has built a reputation as one of the finest mandolin players in the UK. With Show of Hands off the road for a year, the duo are embarking on an extensive tour of the British Isles in support of their new CD ‘Sing A Full Song’.

As well as being a superb vocalist and double bass player, Miranda Sykes is a great guitarist and slips effortlessly between genres.

Miranda has been touring with Show of Hands and is now working on her fifth solo album project. She is joined by Rex Preston; the most virtuosic mandolin player in the UK today. The fluidity of his style augments Miranda’s songs beautifully. For a taster song clip, click here.

The club meets every Friday in December, with a Christmas Singaround on 24 December (8-10.30 pm, free entry) and a New Year’s Eve Party on 31 December (8.30 pm till 1 am, £3 non-members) with singaround songs and tunes, and ceilidh dances. Bring liquid refreshment and, perhaps some food to share, to both these special events.
